You are about to embark on a trip to another country! Such an exciting time is not without its element of stress and planning. Depending on which country you are visiting, you may need to take extra precautions when it comes to cell phone service. Chances are, your standard cell phone service and contract will not work in your new country of choice without a lot of added fees. You have two main options when it comes to having coverage in the country you’ve decided to visit. The best option will decide on your needs and what you plan on doing while you are within the country.

This can be expensive, but it will likely be far less expensive than international roaming charges. This option is great if you plan on staying within the city for the duration of your trip.

• Satellite Phones. renting a satellite phone will cost more than going with the prepaid option, but it provides some extra benefits that you may enjoy. Perhaps one of the best benefits is that you’ll be able to use the phone anywhere that you’ll go. Instead of being reliant on cell towers in your destination country, you’ll be relying on the satellite of your chosen carrier. This is great if you are visiting underdeveloped countries, or if you’ll be taking trips into the wilderness during your visit.
Each option will be ideal for different types of travelers. Going with a satellite phone may not be required for every destination, however, if you will be heading into the wilderness it will certainly prove useful.
